The effect of therapeutic exercises combined with Gold Collagen supplementation in reducing cartilage erosion and improving motor function in patients with knee osteoarthritis

Abstract

      This research aimed to identify the effect of a proposed program using therapeutic exercises combined with the consumption of Gold Collagen dietary supplement in reducing cartilage erosion in the knee joint and improving motor function in patients with knee osteoarthritis. The researchers used an experimental approach with a single-group pre- and post-test design on a sample of 20 individuals with moderate knee osteoarthritis. The therapeutic exercise program was implemented for 12 weeks, with three sessions per week, while the participants consumed a daily collagen supplement. The dependent variables (pain, range of motion, muscle strength, motor function, and cartilage thickness) were measured using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), the WOMAC scale, a goniometer, a hand dynamometer, and ultrasound. The results showed statistically significant differences at the 0.05 level between the pre- and post-tests in favor of the post-test in all variables. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in cartilage thickness, a reduction in pain, and an improvement in function. Regarding mobility, combining therapeutic exercises with collagen supplements has a positive and effective impact on rehabilitating patients with knee osteoarthritis and protecting cartilage from deterioration.
