Abstract

This study investigates the effect of using an electromagnetic field (E.M.F) device in combination with therapeutic exercises in the rehabilitation of patients with knee joint fractures. The importance of the study stems from the high prevalence of knee injuries and their associated pain and functional impairment, as well as the need to develop conventional rehabilitation approaches.

The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the proposed rehabilitation program in reducing pain, restoring range of motion, and improving muscle strength of the muscles surrounding the knee joint. The researchers employed an experimental design using a pre–post test approach with a single group. The sample consisted of three patients with knee joint fractures, aged between 25 and 35 years, selected from Al-Nofaleen Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center in Tripoli.

The rehabilitation program included the use of an electromagnetic field device alongside a set of progressive therapeutic exercises implemented over three phases. Outcome measures included pain assessment scales, a goniometer for range of motion, and muscle strength tests.

The results showed significant improvement following the intervention, with pain reduced by 75%, range of motion improved by approximately 50%, and muscle strength increased by about 40%. These findings indicate the effectiveness of combining electromagnetic field therapy with therapeutic exercises.

The study concluded that the proposed rehabilitation program has a positive impact on improving the functional status of the knee joint after fractures and contributes to accelerating recovery and restoring motor efficiency. The researchers recommend adopting such programs in physical therapy centers, further developing them in line with technological advancements, and conducting additional studies with larger sample sizes to strengthen the evidence.
