Abstract

This study aimed to identify the role of early physical therapy intervention in improving motor function in children with Erb's palsy. This was achieved by surveying the opinions and experiences of physical therapists working in the field of pediatric rehabilitation. The study employed a descriptive-analytical approach, and data were collected using a questionnaire administered to a purposive sample of 59 physical therapists in Tripoli. The data were analyzed using SPSS software through descriptive and inferential statistical methods. The results showed a clear professional consensus on the critical importance of early intervention, as the majority of participants confirmed that starting physiotherapy during the first weeks after birth is a key factor in achieving positive therapeutic outcomes, and contributes to improving motor functions, increasing range of motion, and reducing complications such as joint stiffness and compensatory movement patterns. The results also showed that the therapeutic goal in the early stages is to focus on maintaining range of motion and preventing deformities, before moving on to strengthening muscles. The study showed broad agreement on the effectiveness of a range of therapeutic techniques, such as range-of-motion exercises, occupational therapy, splints, and hydrotherapy, with some variation in the assessment of the effectiveness of electrical stimulation. The results also confirmed that the family is a pivotal element in the success of the treatment process, as parental commitment to the home program is one of the most important factors for the success of treatment, while psychological and social challenges, such as parental anxiety and lack of awareness, hinder continuity in treatment. The study also showed a good level of knowledge among therapists regarding the anatomical and clinical aspects of the condition, with some variation in predicting the functional outcome of cases, especially in the early stages. The study concluded that early intervention with physical therapy, along with family education and adherence to treatment programs, is the cornerstone for improving functional outcomes and reducing long-term disabilities in children with Erb's palsy. The study recommended the need to strengthen health awareness programs, develop clear early treatment protocols, support the role of the family in the treatment process, and conduct further studies to develop clinical practices in this field.
